Where Korean families live, not just work

If Annandale is the commercial Koreatown of Virginia, Centreville is the residential one. Families who work in Annandale, Tysons, or DC drive home to Centreville — for the schools, the space, and the community.

The Korean Central Presbyterian Church (KCPC) on Lee Highway is one of the largest Korean churches on the East Coast and the gravity well for much of Korean family life in western Fairfax. On Saturdays, the Central Korean School operates out of the same campus, teaching Korean language, history, and culture to a generation of Korean-American children who attend Centreville High, Chantilly High, and Westfield High during the week. The Sent Christian School, hosted by KCPC since 2022, adds a full-week Christian education option for families who want their children grounded in both faith and Korean identity.

Around the church, the rest of the community radiates outward — Grand Plaza at Old Centreville Crossing, Lotte Plaza Market, the Centreville branch of the Korean Community Service Center, and the network of Korean-American professionals and business owners who have made western Fairfax home over the last two decades. For the Korean-American families who live here, weekends are organized around church and Korean school. Weekdays are organized around the schools their children attend and the careers that pay for both.

Our job is to organize the financial life that supports all of it.

The families we work with in Centreville
Our Centreville clients are typically dual-income Korean-American professional families in their late 30s to early 50s, with school-age children and financial lives that are starting to get complicated. The questions that bring them to us usually cluster around the same few themes:
How do we pay for college — US, Korea, or both?
Centreville parents are thinking about college earlier and more seriously than most Americans. They're asking about 529 plans, but also about the trade-offs between US and Korean universities, about gifting strategies from Korean grandparents, and about how to avoid the tax mistakes that derail good intentions.
How do we handle an inheritance or property in Korea without creating US tax problems?
A significant share of our Centreville clients have parents who own property or have substantial assets in Korea. When those assets eventually transfer — or are transferred earlier as a gift — the US tax reporting obligations are real, and the mistakes are expensive.
When do we move from a robo-advisor or a 401(k)-only plan to something that actually integrates everything?
Many Centreville families have been managing their own finances through one or two 401(k)s, a Roth IRA, and maybe a robo-advisor — and have reached the stage where those tools no longer fit the complexity of their lives.
How do we think about buying our second home — in the DMV, in Korea, or as a future family compound?
Centreville families who have built equity in their first home often start thinking about a second home in their 50s. The question of where and how benefits from planning early.
These are not generic questions. They deserve answers from someone who understands both the US tax code and the realities of Korean family obligations.

Meet our Team

We’re a small, senior team. When you work with IPM, you work directly with your advisor - not handed off to a junior associate.

How IPM Advisory
01

Bilingual by design.

Every conversation can happen in Korean, English, or both. Meetings, documents, and ongoing communication adapt to the client. Family meetings with Korean-speaking parents and English-speaking children are a routine part of how we work — not a special accommodation.

02

Fee-only, fiduciary.

No commissions, no product sales, no back-end incentives. We work for you, not for a product company.

03

Plans built around real life.

We don't separate “financial planning” from “the rest of your life.” Korean inheritance, US college funding, dual-income career decisions, home purchases — these connect, and your plan should reflect that.

04

Growing with your wealth.

As your assets grow past IPM's range, we coordinate with our family office partner, so you never have to start over.

Just starting out?

If your total investable assets are under $100K and you're looking for straightforward, lower-cost investment management, our sister firm Invested Advisory may be a better first step. You can always grow into IPM later — most of our Centreville clients did exactly that.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Korean-speaking financial advisor in Centreville?

Yes. IPM Advisory provides bilingual Korean and English wealth management to clients throughout Centreville and western Fairfax County, including families attending Korean Central Presbyterian Church and parents with children at Centreville, Chantilly, and Westfield High Schools.

How do you help Korean-American families with college planning?

We build 529 plans, coordinate with Korean-side gifts and inheritance, address the unique tax considerations of Korean-American families, and plan for US or Korean university options. Our work is tailored to families whose children may study in either country — a scenario standard college planning tools don't handle well.

Can you help with Korean inheritance that's coming to the US?

Yes. Korean inheritance flowing into the US is one of our core specialties. We coordinate with Korean accountants and attorneys on the Korean-side tax, structure the US-side receipt efficiently, and handle FBAR and FATCA reporting obligations.

Do you work with families where one parent speaks only Korean, and one child speaks only English?

Yes, frequently. Family meetings that span languages and generations are a normal part of our work. We can conduct conversations in both languages simultaneously and produce documents in whichever language each family member needs.
